on. shy between industrial and el camino. if you're headed to the freeway, use ralston. it's a much clearer route. hopefully we'll be staying dry today. pete, what's going on? >> reporter: good morning to you, mike. staying dry so far. here on harbor and industrial road. we show you these images all morning line. the water shooting 200 feet in the air from the fire hydrant. i had a chance to speak to chp. at 3:00 a.m. on this road, a driver losing control of this u-haul on industrial. that's what you're seeing right now. the water is hitting power lines in front of me. i have a chance to speak to a driver off camera. he tells me he lost control trying to avoid an animal. san mateo trying to turn off the water slowly in this area. they don't want to cut off water to the whole area.

i did have a chance to speak to a man who was in front of the storage facility when this all happened. he called 911. we'll have his interview in the next hour. pete suratos, today in the bay. hopefully they can get that under control. 5:02 on your thursday morning. we are following a developing story out of washington. details coming in minute by minute. possible connections between attorney general jeff sessions and russian connections are all coming to light. now there is a call for his resignation. edward lawrence live at our nation's capital monitoring all the fallout for us this morning. edward, sessions is responding. exactly. within the last 30 minutes actually he came out of his house and said that he did not meet any russian talking about the campaign last year he had the accusations are false.

this morning a possible bombshell first reported by the "washington post" that attorney general jeff sessions had conversations with the russians last year during the campaign. aides to the attorney general confirm he spoke to the russian ambassador twice last september and never disclosed it during his confirmation hearing. here's what he said under oath. >> if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the trump campaign communicated with the russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do? >> senator franken, i'm not aware of any of those activities. i have been called a surrogate a time or two and i did not have communications with the russians. >> how can we expect him to keep our citizens safe and protect our democracy if he will criticize all of our friends around the globe but continues to praise russia. >> reporter: sessions says he

spoke to the ambassador in his role as senate armed services committee, not representing mr. trump. some democrats are calling for the attorney general to resign. you may remember former national security adviser michael flynn resigned because of his conversations with the russian ambassador last year. edward lawrence. now back to you. edward, thank you very much. new this morning, a story we have been following for hours overnight. police in oakland are looking for a driver that opened fire at an off-duty oak land police officer. you see them canvassing the highway. in the video they are using flash lights to search that closed freeway for evident. the off-duty police officer said he was in an unmarked car when a ford explorer cut him off on the road and then in explicably started firing at him. the police officer started pursuing the driver.

the suv was later found abandoned. looking for three suspects. >> new details right now is and perhaps a new clue to help solve a deadly shooting on san francisco's waterfront. it happened last august at aquatic park. he was playing pokemon go. police have issued new videos of a car. it is is a white four door hyundai sonata. riley was a former sarah high school athlete playing college baseball in stockton. we are learning about the heroic efforts of firefighters in southern california after this deadly, fiery plane wreck. they entered a burning home to rescue stacy pierce. rescuers still managed to hear

the mother of four groaning inside one of the homes. with little visibility and a lot of heat, firefighters rushed in and brought her out to safety. one firefighter dropped to his knees when he knew she was safe. >> i was physically and emotionally exhausted. i dropped to my knees for a moment to catch my breath, regain my composure. almost immediately my next thought was, is anybody else in the house? >> there was no one else to rescue. the only other crash survivor was already getting emergency care. loved ones have started go fund me pages to support both families stpwhraofp families. a billionaire philanthropist is throwing a life line to

affected than wells fargo first let on. the federal agency is the target of a white house and congressional republicans who want to weaken it or close it down. stock markets roared ahead wednesday following president trump's speech. the dow crossed 21,000 for the first time ever. up better than 300 points. president trump tweeting about it this morning. analysts giving reasons why the markets move. this one is a stumper. one governor talked about the improving economy. i don't think that accounts for 300 points on the you to. which means this was based on president trump giving a presidential speech, which presidents give all the time. apparently the reaction of that speech was enough to push the dow 300 points. >> didn't he tweet jobs this morning too? >> he's taking credit for all of this, which is, you know, is dangerous. because the stock market moves.

day. as the seven-take forecast comes up at the bottom of the screen you will see there is some rain in the weekend forecast. here it is. we are seeing showers well to the north of us. that's where it has been the last couple of days. i will make progression to the south. some of the showers into the bay area by as early as saturday morning. the rest of the bay area stays dry and cloudy. then we will see the rain moving in. as it gets heavier moving into san francisco right at about dinner time on saturday. and the peninsula will start to see some of the showers moving in, getting heavier as it moves through the south pay, east bay, and the peninsula late saturday night into sunday. by sunday, when the cold air mixes in, there may be lowell vacation snow 3,000 feet or above. looking at the potential of half an inch of rain for the bay area. and yesterday the surveyors went out across the sierra, took

measurements and found that the statewide average for snowpack is at 185%. and at about 48 feet. so those snow totals so far in some parts up to 578 inches. unreal. if you're following me on facebook and twitter, i'll keep you up to date on what's happening this weekend as rain moves in. off and on showers expected as temperatures drop. by sunday, we may see the high up to 51 degrees. and showers through the inland area. but then warming up. next week we'll be back into the upper 60s inland. i'll have another look at the forecast coming up. mike, you're on pfizer control. in that was a weird silhouette. over 180. hydrant was busted out after a van ran into a u-haul van.

left. you can see the water shooting in the air 70 feet in front of the storage facility. a number of folks on the scene. chp, belmont fire and the water district. they are saying the crash happened around 3:00 a.m. in front on the storage facility. i spoke to the driver of the u-haul van who said he was traveling down harbor road trying to avoid an animal in the street when he lost control, eventually hitting that fire hydrant. there was a man in the nearby van who called the accident and called 911. i spoke to him and here's what he had to say. >> i heard this crashing sounbe. it was coming closer is and closer. it sounded like it was ripping everything away. i heard a big metal object by on the ground. >> you can see the water shooting up about 70 feet, guys, hitting the power lines.

officer. fortunately missed this officer. the officer did call for from his or her colleagues from opd. they started chasing the explorer. the suspectseneded up abandoning their suv at 5 a e a5th and bro. they brought in a canine. the trail eventually went cold and the search was called off. not clear if any suspects were taken into custody. they searched 880 by flashlight looking for bullet casings. bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you, bob. our private e-mail accounts of government officials considered public record? that's what the court will decide today. this comes after private e-mails caused controversy recently but locally too. kris sanchez joining us with

details on the local impact of this case, kris. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam. this is the case dating back to. e-mails and text messages sent on personal devices related to san pedro square. again, 2009. it was filed by ted smith after being told by city attorney those records were not accessible via the public records law because they were sent on personal devices. chuck reed and the council, including the current mayor and the head of the redevelopment agency, which no longer exists. that this california supreme court will decide today, whether they can conduct government business out of the citizens's view. many consider it part of the public record, even if they're on personal devices. but it is like asking government officials to hand over their house keys and monitoring

personal accounts would be difficult and expensive. the california supreme court will take up the matter today. in case you're wondering, if our city leaders use their personal devices for work-related e-mails and texts today, those are subject to public records requests because in 2010, the city enacted sunshine reform to make things a little more transparent. kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> thanks for the latest, chris. 5:37. this morning u.c. berkeley is looking for suspects who destroyed a trump sign on campus last night. this is a photo of the aftermath. the sign was put up by campus republicans. they say two people took it down and shredded it. it has happened before. we have video posted on social media of another sign being destroyed on tuesday. republicans say they are increasingly under siege for their conservative views. >> two individual came to our table, destroyed our trump yard sign, completely ripping it to shreds. i chased them down and took

photos of them. that's when they decided to corner me. one of the individuals on a bike tried to ram into me. >> tensions have grown since they decided to allow milo yiannopolous to give a speech. he later resigned from breitbart news and was dropped from his book detail. cal republicans want him back on campus. happening today, san francisco supervisor peskin is address too few ambulances per city. one friday night, five people were left with no ambulances to transport them to the hospital. some of the shortage had to do with an unforeseen surge in 911 calls. they will host a meeting looking into reasons the problem and what to do about it.

it has stopped spilling over. with an additional half an inch of rain, it may cause minor problems. they're not expecting any major problems as the rain moves in for the weekend. but we will continue to monitor this and what else to expect as we head into the next weather system. i'll talk more about this. let's head over to mike now for a crash in san pablo >> that's right. as far back as pinole. we are showing a smooth flow of traffic. nothing unexpected anywhere south of the bay bridge as far as the freeways are concerned. a broken hydrant and water on the roadway in belmont. westbound 80, a crash blocking a couple of lanes. the lanes are cleared but there may be another fender-bender in the backup. we will continue to track that and highway 4. traffic flows well. except for the one exception in pinole, san pablo.
